In 1987 he had a massive accident which left him in a coma for 17 days.
Guerrero became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1989, now lives in Orange County, CA. Later he began off-road racing at the legendary Baja 2000. He has since continued to race in Baja 1000 events and guide tours of the Baja peninsula with Wide Open Baja.
