The Prince first came to europe to study at Eton and Camebridge. Bira started racing with his cousin Prince Chula Chakrabongse's team, White Mouse Racing.
After the war, Bira returned to racing with several teams. He retired at the end of the 1955 season.
The king portrayed in the Hollywood movie "The King and I" was Bira's grandfather.
Bira moved back to Thailand 1956, after some time he moved to France and later back to England. Prince Bira died at Baron's Court Underground Station in London on 23 December 1985. He fell down with a heart attack. Thanks to a handwritten note (in Thai) in his pocket Scotland Yard and The Royal Thai Embassy could identify him.
