Wurz got his interest in motorsport from his father Franz, who had been in the rallycross scene in the seventies. Retired from active racing in F1 after the Chinese GP 2007 with one race left of the season. Frank Williams: "Alex has made an invaluable contribution to the team, first as one of the best test and development drivers the team has ever worked with and later as a race driver.
Later also worked for Austrian TV as a F1 commentator and with former WRC champion Robert Reid be teutors in the new FIA Institute Academy for new talants throughout 2011.
Late 2015 Alex announced that he where retiering from racing.
Alex is now involved in track design.
