Johnny is the only driver to have scored points with a 4WD car in a GP race, at Mosport 1969 with a Matra MS84. After hitting a chicane and failing to qualify for the Monaco Grand Prix 1969, he suddenly announced his retirement from racing. Later Johnny sustained burns in two separate boating fires, and after a period of ill-health, died from a pulmonary embolism in 2006.
