Half brother of Graham Whitehead. In 1948 he was seriously injured in a plane crash prepearing for a trip to Italy buying a Ferrari 125. The car he raced with from 1949-53. Peter was the first Briton to win a major race abroad since Seaman when he won in Czechoslovakia 1949. During the Tour de France 1958 when Whithead’s Jaguar, with Graham at the wheel, crashed over a bridge parapet into a ravine, injuring the driver but killing his unfortunate passenger.
