Razia made his first appearance in a Formula One team when he joined Virgin Racing, one of the new teams for the 2010 season, as a test driver. Razia drove the car during the Young drivers test at the end of the season. Team Lotus hired him as a reserve and test driver for 2011. He drove in the first Free Practice session at the Chinese Grand Prix, in place of regular driver Jarno Trulli. He also competed in the Young Driver test for Team Lotus.
Luiz was announced as a race driver for Marussia during the first pre-season Formula 1 test but his sponsors payment deadline was missed and finaly Jules Bianchi got the seat 2 weeks before the first race
