Heidfeld began racing in 1988 and in 1994 he moved into cars in Formula Ford 1600.
"As a thank you for Nick´s seven years of great commitment to the Sauber team, Peter Sauber gave Nick a Formula One car from this era," after the final race 2009, wich also was the final race for BMW/Sauber-team.
Nick holds the record of most race finished in one year, 18 of 18 2008 equal to T Monteiro 2005 but there where 19 races that year.
Nick where relesed from his contract with Mercedes 2010 to help Pirrelli with tyre testing for it's comback 2011 and in September 2010 Nick was called back to Sauber to drive the final 5 races.
Early 2011 Robert Kubica where injured in a rally event and Nick where called in to replace him.
Nick still (2014) holds the record time at Goodwood hillclimb, 41,6 sec with a McLaren
